Abstract

This study presents the hydrographic and hydrological characteristics of the Shelek River, one of the largest watercourses in the southeastern part of the Zailiysky Alatau. Based on long-term observations, an analysis of the river's water capacity was conducted, including the reconstruction of missing data using correlation methods and subsequent verification of their representativeness. It was determined that the mean multi-year water discharge is 41.8 m³/s, with an observational error ranging from 2% to 8%. Signs of non-stationarity in runoff were identified, expressed in significant interannual fluctuations, including extremely low discharge values in certain years. Despite these deviations, the use of the stationarity concept remains justified for water management planning. The results of the study can be used for further modeling of water resources, assessment of irrigation potential, and the development of adaptive strategies under climate change conditions.
